ROLLING STONES Set To Return For One Night Only

MUSIC NEWS - Rolling Stones fans get ultimate satisfaction for one night as the legendary rockers take us back to the summer tour that skyrocketed their careers with Ladies & Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones. Going The Distance Soundtrack Announced; Boxer Rebellion, Airborne Toxic Event, more

MUSIC NEWS - Watertower Music has just announced an August 24 release of the soundtrack to the upcoming film "Going The Distance" on CD and digital formats. The soundtrack features new music from The Boxer Rebellion and The Airborne Toxic Event, and also boasts a great mix of indie-rockers such as Cat Power, Band of Skulls, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Passion Pit, intermingled with more classic rock from The Cure, The Pretenders and The Replacements, among others. 

THE AIRBORNE TOXIC EVENT to Release Disney Concert Show on DVD

MUSIC NEWS- The Airborne Toxic Event are prepping to release a documentary film about last year's sold-out performance at the world renowned Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles that featured an eclectic mix of musicians and performers-ranging from a children's choir, a world-class string quartet, a high school marching band, horn players, visual artists, and Mexican folkórico dancers. The dvd will be available in the US on September 7th and will be entitled All I Ever Wanted: Live From the Walt Disney Concert Hall and will give us an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the extensive rehearsals and preparation that went into putting on the show at the Frank Gehry designed venue, home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Watch the trailer for "All I Ever Wanted...", below.

All I Ever Wanted: Live From the Walt Disney Concert Hall will have its Euro premiere at the prestigious Raindance Film Festival in London. Raindance is the largest independent film festival in the UK, and has premiered classics like "Pulp Fiction," "The Blair Witch Project"and "Memento." HANS ZIMMER and Guitarist JOHNNY MARR Announce Special L.A. Concert

MUSIC NEWS - Oscar winner, composer Hans Zimmer and heralded guitarist Johnny Marr (The Smiths, Modest Mouse, The Cribs) have announced a special concert for the film, INCEPTION, on Tuesday, July 13.  The show which will have them backed by a 20 piece orchestral will immediately follow the film’s Los Angeles premiere, with the one-time concert taking place at the official after-party on the same day as the soundtrack, Inception: Music From The Motion Picture, is released (via Warner Bros. Records). The performance will stream live to fans at ustream (link below). Proceeds from tickets sold to the Inception film premiere and after-party event will benefit the Alliance for Climate Protection.

The KINKS "Schoolboys..." Album To Become Film Musical

MUSIC NEWS- Word from the UK is that The Kinks' album "Schoolboys in Disgrace" will be made into a film with Bobcat Goldthwait directing.  Mr Goldthwait has written the script, which is based on the band's 1975 album.  Kinks frontman Ray Davies, wrote all the songs on the record and will be the film's executive produce the project.

Produced by Howard Gertler and Tim Perell, the film will be shor in the UK.  Gertler/Perell previously produced the Dustin Hoffman / Emma Thompson romantic comedy "Last Chance Harvey" and "World's Greatest Dad," which starred Robin Williams.

Twilight Saga : Eclipse Soundtrack to Feature MUSE

MUSIC NEWS -  "THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK,” the musical companion to the anticipated third installment in the film franchise (out via Summit Entertainment) is due in stores and online June 8.  The soundtrack will feature songs that will appear in the movie, and be highlighted by Muse’s brand new single “Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever).” 

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE is due for a very wide theatrical release nationwide on June 30.  “ECLIPSE” will be the third Twilight soundtrack that British rock trio MUSE has been a part of. The band’s “Supermassive Black Hole” appeared on the “TWILIGHT” soundtrack, and for the “NEW MOON” soundtrack, the group contributed “I Belong To You (New Moon Remix).” And now, exclusive to “ECLIPSE,” is “Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever)” that will be available to download and the soundtrack available for pre-order beginning Monday, May 17.

LIAM GALLAGHER to Develope BEATLES Film

MUSIC NEWS - The former Oasis lead singer LIAM GALLAGHER has said he's adapting Richard DiLello's book about The Beatles into a feature film. Called, "The Longest Cocktail Party" the tome focuses on the fab four's record company, Apple, between the years 1968 and 1970, says BBC reported.

Gallagher's film company, In 1 Productions, will produce, along with Independent Revolution Films. While in Oasis, Liam and his brother Noel Gallagher both stated their admiration for The Beatles on many occastions and even recorded covers of "I Am The Walrus" and "Within You Without You."

Oasis split up last year after a long standing feud between the two brothers.

Public Image Ltd (PiL) to Make "Jimmy Fallon" Appearance, Announce NYC Filming Plans

MUSIC NEWS - While PUBLIC IMAGE LTD (PiL) continue to make their run across North America on their first U.S. tour in 18 years, the band's revealed that they will appear on NBC TV’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Show” on Monday, May 17 (12:35 AMET-PT/11:25 PMCT).

And in other Pil news, the John Lydon-fronted band will film their entire performance at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY on Wednesday, May 19 for a forthcoming PiL documentary directed by Alex Mar and produced by Artists Public Domain. DJ Justin Miller of DFA Records will open the Williamsburg show.

PHISH 3D in Theatres This Week

MUSIC NEWS - Phish 3D, a 3D concert experience movie from PHISH,  opens nationwide this Friday, April 30th for an exclusive one week run. The movie features never before seen cover songs, and intimate footage of the band backstage and in rehearsals.

Filmed back in October 2009 at the band’s Festival 8, more than 40,000 devoted fans watched as Phish combined two of their most beloved tradition; the multi-day festival and the Halloween album “costume.” The band’s highly anticipated "musical costumes" are concerts involving the performance of an entire album by another artist, in this case, Phish covered the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street album. Phish 3D also features songs from the band’s first ever full-length acoustic set, as well as performances taken from the six additional sets.

The two+ hour movie is presented by Action 3D Productions in association with Network LIVE and Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp.

DANIEL JOHNSTON Slams "Devil and Daniel Johnston" Film

MUSIC NEWS - Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter DANIEL JOHNSTON has said little about the 1996 documentary on him, The Devil and Daniel Johnston.  That is until recently, when he told the BBC that the film "wasn't really fair" and focused on the most difficult parts of his life.  The film documented his tumultuous upbringing and struggles with substance abuse and schizophrenia (and was released on dvd by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment).

“It wasn’t really fair because it really talked about the worst experiences of my life,” Johnston said recently. “I wish they had included more music instead of making it one of those Stranger Than Fiction shows.”

He also recently revealed that he'd like to try his hand at some screen work of his own.  “I'd like to direct my own movies. I'm working on a film of my own and I want to direct it all myself,” he said. “[I'm planning] a variety show, with songs, videos and comedy skits all together.”

In other Johnston news, he just released his new album Beam Me Up!.  On it, he recorded with BEAM ,11-piece Dutch .

Phish 3D Film Celebrates Festival 8

MUSIC NEWS - Phish 3D, a 3D concert experience, will hit theatres nationwide on Friday, April 30 for an exclusive one week run.  The two+ hour movie, presented by Action 3D Productions in association with Network LIVE and Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp., highlights Phish’s Festival 8, a three-day, eight-set, 16-hour concert in the Southern California desert. 

Prior to the nationwide roll-out, exclusive preview screenings will be shown in nine cities -- Boston; Burlington, VT; Chicago; Denver; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Raleigh/Durham, NC; and Washington, D.C. on April 20.  Fans that attend the advance showings get a Phish 3D movie poster. TOOL Frontman Now Wine Guru

MUSIC NEWS - Blood Into Wine is the new documentary that features Tool / Puscifer front man Maynard James Keenan, his vineyard partner Eric Glomski, actress Milla Jovovich, comedians Patton Oswalt, Bob Odenkirk, Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim.  While Puscifer is band on the road, the producers of the film have announced additional screening dates (full list below).

 

Blood Into Wine was co-directed by Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke, the team behind critically acclaimed documentaries Moog and The Heart Is a Drum Machine.  FilmCritic.com called the film: "a rock 'n roll version of Sideways,” the Los Angeles Times said “The frisson between his [Keenan] well-crafted personal mystique and the way the film presents him as a dedicated new winemaker learning his craft is intriguing” and the San Diego CityBeat added, "It’s a behind-the-curtain peek at a notoriously publicity-shy celebrity, but more than that, it’s a fascinating look at pioneers braving the Arizona elements to create drinkable art."

RUNAWAYS Film Soundtrack News

MUSIC NEWS - The soundtrack from the new film "THE RUNAWAYS" has been announced for a March 16 digital release and will hit stores on March 23rd (via Atlantic Records). The talked about film stars Dakota Fanning, Kristen Stewart and Michael Shannon will open in theatres across North America on March 19 (check out the recently released trailer, below).

 "THE RUNAWAYS-MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE" features original songs from The Runaways and four re-recorded versions of the legendary all-girl group's classic tunes by the film's stars Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart, the first time either actress has contributed to a film's soundtrack. The Emmett Malloy-directed documentary film, The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights, which captured their journey will makes its way across North America for a series screenings to allow fans a view into the touring lives of one of the world’s most enigmatic bands prior to its official DVD release on March 16th.
