Guns N' Roses Performance Cut Short at UK's Reading Festival

MUSIC NEWS  - Rockers, Guns N' Roses had their Reading Festival (UK) headlining performance cut off after they showed up nearly an hour late to the event.  The band, led by singer Axl Rose, started their sete at 10:30pm local time on Friday night, August 27.

Festival organisers say they were given an extra half hour to play and released the following statement;  "Guns N' Roses wanted to 'extend' the new agreed curfew but were prevented from doing so in order to comply with the entertainment licence issued by Reading Council."

LINKIN PARK to Unveil New Times Square "Best Buy" Theatre

 MUSIC NEWS- The Times Square NYC concert venue the Nokia Theatre is no more, and Grammy Award-winning band Linkin Park will be celebrating the release of their new album, A Thousand Suns (out on Machine Shop Recordings / Warner Bros Records) at the newly named Best Buy Theater with an inaugural performance on September 14, 2010. The new name for Manhattan's concert and events showplace comes as AEG Live and Best Buy announced a multi-year naming rights agreement for the venue.

We know sponsorships are a core part of the music biz, but we must say that Nokia Theatre was less blatant as the new "Best But" moniker. Does this mean the prices for shows at the theatre will be the cheapest in NYC?

GUNS 'N ROSES Concerts ARE NOT Cancelled

MUSIC NEWS- After their first USA show in four years, a recent late night appearance at the Rock n Rev festival in Sturgis, SD,  GUNS 'N ROSES seeminly announced all future gigs were off.  But we now are told that are not cancelling their upcoming UK festival shows, according to a spokesperson for the Reading And Leeds Festivals.  The shows, which include headlining slots at next week's (August 27 thru 29) events, were put into doubt as a result of a tweet from Axl Rose's Twitter account, which said all future shows were cancelled.

BUCKCHERRY's New "ALL NIGHT LONG" is Going Strong!

MUSIC NEWS  - L.A. hard rockers' Buckcherry have released their new studio album, their fifth entitled, ALL NIGHT LONG.  Out now, it's their first since the band returned to indie rock label,  Eleven Seven Music, and it's had an impressive debut at #10 on the Top Billboard Top 200 Album chart and was the #1 Rock debut along with getting impressively positive reviews.

The band is currently on the road playing select tour dates and will gear up for an extensive North American tour supporting Nickelback.  That tour starts up on September 14th in Nashville, TN at the Bridgestone Arena (full Buckcherry tour itinerary below).

VAN HALEN Back After a Decade with New Album?

MUSIC NEWS- Reports are that Van Halen are working on a new album, their first in over a decade, and the plans include David Lee Roth. Twenty-six years after they last recorded together, the hard-rockers are reuinted with their original singer, with an album planned for 2011.

No official announcement from the band yet, but their publishing company slipped it out in a recent press release. Warner/Chappell Music's statement simply noted that the firm was renewing their publishing deal with Eddie and Alex Van Halen.  The cool part was at the end of the release, confirming rumors that have been circulating for months: "The group is currently in the studio recording an album with Roth that is due for release in 2011."

MUSIC NEWS - Black Country Communion, the new English-American rock supergroup featuring vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Trapeze), drummer Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin), keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) and blues rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa, have posted a free MP3 download today of their debut single "One Last Soul" on their official website, get it,  here.

The song will be featured on BCC's much anticipated debut album released in the UK/Europe by Mascot Records on 20th September, followed by 21st September North American release on the J&R Adventures label. Produced and mixed by Kevin Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin), the album was mastered by legendary Bob Ludwig, and recorded at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, California.

GREEN DAY Returns To North America for More Concerts

MUSIC NEWS - With their sold-out stadium tour of Europe behind them, rockers Green Day will hit the road next week for a series of North American tour dates, and a TV appearance, including an August 7th stop at this year’s Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago, IL. The sows are part of the second leg of the band’s USA tour to promote their Grammy Award winning album 21st Century Breakdown (full itinerary below). The band, singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool will also perform their new single, “Last of the American Girls,” on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Friday, July 30th.

Rage Against the Machine's de la Rocha Leads Boycott of Arizona

MUSIC NEWS- RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE lead singer Zack de la Rocha is heading up a boycott against the state of Arizona called The Sound Strike.  "We have to intervene in order to do whatever we possibly can to limit that state's ability to function and implement the law," Mr de la Rocha says in a Web video he's produced (see recent press conference below).  So far, he's recruited artists ranging from Kanye West and Nine Inch Nails to Latino bands such as Los Tigres del Norte.

New Site for Rock 'N Rev Festival in Sturgis, and GUNS N ROSES Signs On

MUSIC NEWS- Their first US concert appearance in four years, and playing their only 2010 US show, GUNS n ROSES has been officially signed-on with DAUGHTRY to join the inaugural ROCK ‘N REV FESTIVAL and cement its assault on the legendary Sturgis Rally’s 70th Anniversary celebration in Sturgis, SD at the newly constructed Rock N’ Rev Amphitheater at Monkey Rock USA.  Full fest line up is listed below.

LINKIN PARK Confirms Autumn Release of "A Thousand Suns"

MUSIC NEWS- Via their official website, LINKIN PARK today announced a September 14 release of their new album A THOUSAND SUNS (out via Machine Shop Recordings/Warner Bros). The album is co-produced by Rick Rubin (U2, Johnny Cash) and Linkin Park vocalist Mike Shinoda, who last joined up to produce Linkin Park’s 2007 release, Minutes To Midnight.
 
They also announced the first single from the new album will be “The Catalyst,” which will make its' debut on radio around the globe on August 2.  The tune will also be featured on the band’s MySpace Music profile.  But before the song is released, the band and MySpace are teaming up for “Linkin Park, Featuring You,” promo.  It'll give you a first-of-its-kind opportunity to collaborate with Linkin Park to produce their own song based on some of the tracks from the forthcoming single.

NICKELBACK Extends Dark Horse World Tour

MUSIC NEWS- Canadian rockers,  NICKELBACK who was named 'Group of Decade' by the music industry Billboard Magazine and started 2010 by performing at the Closing Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics, is showing no signs of slowing down this year, as they annouced plans to extend their Dark Horse World Tour. The next leg of the tour begins on September 14 in Nashville, TN and runs through October 30, wrapping up in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Arena. Three Days Grace and Buckcherry will join Nickelback on the bill as they promote their latest album, Dark Horse (out via RoadRunner Records), which was produced by the legendary Mutt Lange . Concert tickets go on sale to the general public on July 17.

"Our fans have been amazing all over the world from Japan to New Zealand, Australia, Dubai, the UK and North America," said Nickelback's Chad Kroeger. "Our fans keep us going and we are excited to play 25 more dates in the US with Three Days Grace and Buckcherry."

5th KISS Member, Manager Bill Aucoin, Dead at 66

MUSIC- Rock manager, Bill Aucoin, the man behind KISS who built the band into the musical and merchandising legend it became, died this week, June 28 at Aventura (FL) Hospital and Medical Center as a result of complications from prostate cancer surgery, according to his website, Aucoin.biz. He was 66.

He was formerly a television cameraman, for WGBH in Boston, and met Kiss in NYC in 1973.  He was their second manager,  and helped build the fire-breathing, makeup-wearing, explosive filled quartet into a huge moneymaking operation. He financed the band's initial tour on his personal American Express card when funding was difficult to come by and helped get them their first record deal.  "He was the fifth Kiss," said drummer Peter Criss, at whose second wedding Aucoin serve as the best man. "If it wasn't for Bill, there would be no Kiss."

DEFTONES Announce Headlining USA Dates

MUSIC NEWS - With the DEFTONES just wrapping up their European tour in support of their sixth full-length studio album, Diamond Eyes, and following a string of sold out USA shows and a high-energy performance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!,  they've now announced their own headline tour slated to begin this August on the West Coast.  It'll work its way across the Midwest while you await this fall’s highly anticipated BLACKDIAMONDSKYE (which also featuring Alice In Chains and Mastodon).

Bonamassa, Hughes, Bonham & Sherinian Form BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION

MUSIC NEWS - Black Country Communion the Anglo/American rock supergroup made up of vocalist/ bassist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Trapeze), drummer Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) and blues rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa, announced September release dates and track listing for their debut album “Black Country”.

The album will be released by Mascot Records in the UK and the rest of Europe on Monday September 20th, then  a North American release through J&R Adventures on Tuesday September 21st.

All tunes have Glenn Hughes on vocals, excepting Song Of Yesterday and The Revolution In Me which are both sung by Joe Bonamassa.  Hughes and Bonamassa share lead vocals on the songs Sista Jane and Too Late For The Sun.   Also included on the album will be a new version of Medusa, the classic rock song that Hughes originally recorded with his first band Trapeze.  Th debut album was produced and mixed by KEVIN SHIRLEY (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin).
