OK Go Announce Autumn Tour and "White Knuckles" Contest

MUSIC NEWS -  OK Go, the most downloaded band ever, will launch an extensive North American
tour with a performance in California at the Los Angeles County Fair on October 3rd.  Tickets are on sale now. In addition to their headlining shows, the band will perform at the Discover Louisville Festival (10/12) and the PopTech Conference (10/21, Camden, ME).  PopTech is an annual event that convenes a network of visionary individuals in science, technology, design, the corporate and social sectors, entrepreneurship, education and the arts to explore the nature of creative change.

OK Go have partnered with Indaba Music and the Rock Band Network to launch a remix contest for their new single, "White Knuckles."  OK Go encourages fans to get as creative as possible, to not feel afraid to redefine the song in both genre and feeling. The contest runs from September 7th through October 14th, details soon @  okgo.net.    Each week starting on September 21, Dave Fridmann, producer of "White Knuckles" and the album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky, chooses his favorite remixes to feature across all OK Go web properties.

John Legend and The Roots in Three Part American Airlines Concert Promotion

MUSIC NEWS - John Legend and The Roots will appear at a three-part private concert series this fall it was announced today.  "The American Airlines John Legend and The Roots Concert Series" will be held in New York City and will feature three exclusive performances at the Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall of Williamsburg. Legend's new album, WAKE UP, releases September 21, 2010 on Columbia Records.

The airline will launch a variety of promotions to highlight each concert and will give you an opportunity to attend the great events, the first of which will be on August 30 thru a ticket sweepstakes at their blackatlas.com site.

JACKSON BROWNE and DAVID LINDLEY's "Show Me the Polyester" Tour Promo

MUSIC NEWS - Jackson Browne and David Lindley, currently touring the USA, are asking you to show off your polyester duds as part of their special online contest. Just must upload photos of you wearing your favorite, and most eye-catching, polyester shirt, in keeping with Browne and Lindley's own onstage presence this summer.  

The deadline for photo submissions is August 25, and one winner will be chosen by August 31 for the grand prize of two front row seats to the sold-out Jackson Browne with David Lindley show at NYC's Beacon Theatre on September 14, 2010.  You'll also get business class air travel for two, local ground transportation, and a two-night Manhattan hotel stay. RUNNER RUNNER; Cure Cover, TV,Tour & Contest News

MUSIC NEWS - Rising pop/rock band from Huntington Beach, CA,  Runner Runner makes its network TV debut on Tuesday, July 20 when they guest on ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live"  (12:05AM/11:05PM CT).  Runner Runner; Ryan Ogren/vocals, Nick Bailey/guitar, Peter Munters/guitar and vocals, Jon Berry/bass, and James Ulrich/drums, will perform their single "So Obvious" as well as the tune "Paper Cuts."  Both songs are from the band's self-titled debut album (out September 28 via  EMI Music/Capitol/C.E. Music/MRV).

Runner Runner will kick off a huge summer tour with Secondhand Serenade and White Tie Affair on July 17, itinerary below.

LINKIN PARK Confirms Autumn Release of "A Thousand Suns"

MUSIC NEWS- Via their official website, LINKIN PARK today announced a September 14 release of their new album A THOUSAND SUNS (out via Machine Shop Recordings/Warner Bros). The album is co-produced by Rick Rubin (U2, Johnny Cash) and Linkin Park vocalist Mike Shinoda, who last joined up to produce Linkin Park’s 2007 release, Minutes To Midnight.
 
They also announced the first single from the new album will be “The Catalyst,” which will make its' debut on radio around the globe on August 2.  The tune will also be featured on the band’s MySpace Music profile.  But before the song is released, the band and MySpace are teaming up for “Linkin Park, Featuring You,” promo.  It'll give you a first-of-its-kind opportunity to collaborate with Linkin Park to produce their own song based on some of the tracks from the forthcoming single.

LILITH FAIR 2010 Takes a Hit, More Shows Cancelled

MUSIC NEWS- Producers of the all-female Lilith Fair 2010 tour, which was originally co-founded in 1997 by singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan and her manager, Terry McBride, confirmed this week that they are canceling nearly a third of the shows on their ambitious tour itinerary.

Lilith 2010 which started up in Calgary last Sunday after an 11-year break is cancelling big market stops like Montreal, Houston and Dallas with the promoters citing "one of the most challenging summer concert seasons" as the reason.  Things may get even worse, with additional cancellations, as performers on the bill (like Norah Jones and Kelly Clarkson [see KC news below]) start jumping ship and leave the declining tour.

Though the problem with poor ticket sales is not just a "girl thing".  Top artists like Christina Aguilera, the Eagles, Rihanna, John Mayer, Limp Bizkit, Jonas Brothers, and the Go-Go's (injury claim on this one) have either canceled individual shows or entire tours with others downsizing to smaller venues due to world economic issues and a possibly saturated touring marketplace.  Many consumers are facing tough economic decisions, and seeing the same performer over and over playing the same songs might be hard to accept, especially at the sky ticket prices (plus fees) that are being charged.

DEFTONES Show Their "Diamond Eyes"

MUSIC NEWS - Not the word normally used to describe them, but “Pretty” affirms Deftones singer and guitarist Chino Moreno when he discusses their new full-length studio album, Diamond Eyes (out May 4, pre-order here). “We’re not afraid to be pretty.” It’s an adjective most riff-heavy groups might avoid, but then, Deftones have never been your average hard rock band. 

They’ve been able to consistently cross over genres, defied categorization and confused the hell out of your iPod (“Heavy Metal?” “Hard Rock?” “Alternative?”).  And most importantly, Deftones have stuck together throughout their often-turbulent time together, and now, bring us one of the most compelling records of their career.

An 11-track album, Diamond Eyes, works the way good records used to run; each song carries listeners further away from your sh*tty day until finally, you’ve been taken to a place that feels a whole lot better than where you started. “There are so many emotions that music can give you, and if you explore all sides of those, it can be really amazing,” said Moreno. “Like sadness -- it can be really lovely, or beautiful, or wide open, or coarse. FOREIGNER to Support "Save the Music" and Offer School Choirs the Chance to Appear on Stage

MUSIC NEWS - Classic rock band FOREIGNER is working with the VH1 Save The Music Foundation and has launched a nationwide fundraising campaign to help restore instrumental music programs in public schools. As part of their “United We Rock” tour (Styx and Kansas are on the bill too), the band's going to donate a portion of CD sales at each show to the foundation. They're also going to auction off a Gibson guitar.

Foreigner and the VH1 Save The Music Foundation will also work with OurStage.com on the “Can’t Slow Down The Music Competition” in each market on the tour offering eligible high school choruses, choirs, glee clubs and vocal groups the chance to win $1000.00 and appear on stage with the band.  The vocal groups need too upload a video of themselves performing Foreigner’s 1984 hit “I Want to Know What Love Is" or the group’s current Top-30 single “In Pieces” (off their Can't Slow Down album) to OurStage.  The winning groups will receive the $$$ and the opportunity to perform “I Want To Know…” with the band when “United We Rock” hits their city.

MOBY Announces His "Wait for Me" Video Contest

MUSIC NEWS - Electronic/dance artist MOBY has asked fans to make the video for his next single, WAIT FOR ME, off his May 2009 album, Wait for Me (out via Mute Records).  Moby has launched a contest that offers a lucky winner $5,000 for creating the best music promo to accompany the song.

Get to work and submit your video via his official website by April 5, 2010.  The talented, lucky winner will then be chosen in time for the single’s May 3, 2010 release date.

BAD LIEUTENANT Needs You To Make Their Next Video

MUSIC NEWS - Bad Lieutenant is putting the creative onus squarely into the hands of their fans for their next video.

The band has partnered with DailyMotion.com for a contest that invites you and aspiring filmmakers to create what will be the official music video for the band's new single, "Twist of Fate," a tune off their debut album, Never Cry Another Tear.  The competition starts today, February 23 and will run until April 2, 2010 which is nearly a week after the single's March 23 USA release date.  The winning submission will be personally chosen by the members of Bad Lieutenant. The winner's video will be featured on the Bad Lieutenant channel, their MySpace page, official website, and other social networks, as the official video for "Twist of Fate."
