MUSIC NEWS - Boy George has opened up about the recent cancellation of Culture Club's North American and UK tours after he was ordered not to sing by doctors. Speaking to UK paper, The Daily Mail, the singer talked about the repercussions of a polyp being discovered in his throat earlier this month.
"I've got a polyp on my vocal chords," he explained. "The doctor tells me singing would cause irreparable damage, and that's not a risk I am prepared to take. He put a camera down my throat, and it transpired that I have an enlarged polyp which has haemorrhaged. So everything is on hold until it gets better. I don't know how long that will take, and to say I am devastated barely touches how I feel."
The 1980s pop outfit re-assembled and were due to tour this month and next, but it now appears that the concerts will be on some time next year. "I'd been having trouble with my voice for some months, but in true British fashion I ignored it, thinking the problem might just be tiredness, hoping it would go away," continued Boy George.
Music News - To mark his new studio album Tell Em I Gone, Yusuf/Cat Stevens has announced a concert at London's Eventim Apollo. The singer songwriter will perform in Hammersmith UK on November 4 as part of his Peace Train...Late Again tour. Tickets will be on sale at 9am on September 19 for the London date.
Tell Em I Gone is due for release on October 28. According to Rolling Stone, it was inspired by Stevens' listening to R&B in his youth, "Hidden in the background behind my renowned troubadour persona lurked an R&B alter-self waiting to be let free," Stevens explained recently. "What's powerful and profound, to me, is the overall message which emerged, lyrically.
"It suddenly stared me in the face: the innate struggle for Freedom! Isn't that what most human beings dream of? Music and the blues particularly was a means of escape for many chained to the destiny of the rich and powerful."
The album will consist of five originals and five covers, including Edgar Winter's 'Dying to Live' which previously appeared on the soundtrack of the hip-hop documentary Tupac: Resurrection.
