Music News- Raphael Saadiq will kick off his first headline tour in several years this week ( Friday, 7/20 in Minneapolis) and his longtime friend and Lucy Pearl bandmate Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest) will support him on several dates of the summer tour. Flint, MI musician & activist Tunde Olaniran will also join the pair at Detroit's MOCAD this Sunday. In addition to his headline dates, musician and producer Saadiq is set to perform at Chicago's Pitchfork Festival. The Oscar-nominated and Grammy-winning musician and producer will head out on a seven-city run including headline shows in NYC, Boston, Philadelphia and more, and a performance at Chicagos Pitchfork Festival. The dates come as hes set to finish work on his anticipated fifth solo album and first since 2011s Stone Rollin. The upcoming shows follow 2017 performances as a headliner at Afropunk Brooklyn, a surprise appearance with A Tribe Called Quest at FYF Fest 2017, and several dates with Maxwell, among other shows. In addition to his own music, Raphael has been working on many high profile projects with other musicians. In the last year, he has worked with the likes of Chromeo, Justin Timberlake, Rick Ross, Little Dragon, and much more. In 2016, he also served as executive producer on Solanges critically lauded album A Seat at the Table.
Saadiq has become a musical go-to in the film & television world over the last several years. He received his first Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for co-writing the song Mighty River from Mudboundwith co-songwritersMary J. Blige and Taura Stinson. In addition to his work on Mudbound, he composes the music for HBOs hit series Insecure which returns soon for a third season. RHYE today also shared a new music video for track "Count To Five". Inspired by dance videos posted in response to the band's music video for "Taste", frontman Milosh cast dancers and recruited local filmmakers from around the globe via Instagram to create the clip's individual shots. Directed by Milosh, the stunning clip was filmed in Berlin, Tokyo, Moscow, Ghana, Joshua Tree National Park, and Los Angeles. Watch the music video below-.

Directed by SHIRT and Dave Svedosh, Flight Home is immersed in all things classically New York. Music News- When D’Angelo’s manager Kevin Liles stated that the legendary R&B singer’s third album would be out this year after a 14-year gap since Voodoo, many said: “We’ll believe all this when it happens.” Well, it’s finally happening.
News came out on Friday that Black Messiah; credited to D’Angelo And The Vanguard, will be releasing this week, and lead single “Sugah Daddy” premiered in the middle of the night. This is the culmination of a long road for the performer who was touted by many as the greatest living soul singer.
Black Messiah will be streamed in full at a listening party today in New York City, at the Dream Hotel in Chelsea at 4p, hosted by author Nelson George. The full album will be out this Tuesday, 12/16/14, via RCA.

His new album was recorded in Brooklyn’s Studio G and produced by Dub Trio’s Stu Brooks with assistance from studio owner Joel Hamilton. The material for the album was written both in Matisyahu’s Los Angeles home and while on tour. Matisyahu said recenlty; “This record and period of my life deal with madness, listening for and following the inner intuitive voice, a small still sound. This record deals with love, with feelings of brokenness and humility, with humanity, struggle, and sacrifice.”

An annual Hannukah event now in its seventh year, Matisyahu’s Festival of Light is a unique collection of tour dates celebrating the Jewish holiday during the winter months. Matisyahu’s Festival of Light performances will feature sets that include material spanning his entire career.
To kick off his Festival of Light performances, Matisyahu will headline the XRT Holiday Concert for the Kids at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre, where $1.00 from each ticket purchased will benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer. The Stone Rollin’ tour, which started up this spring included performances at SXSW and more recently, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, where Saadiq wowed crowds with his soulful throwbacks.
In addition to his new concert dates, NPR Music will premiere the new album on May 2nd while VH1 has added “Stone Rollin’” to its playlist. Raphael Saadiq will also promote the album on television the week of its release, performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Conan, Later With Carson Daly, The Tavis Smiley Show, BET’s 106 & Park and VH1’s “Big Morning Buzz Live.”
MUSIC NEWS - Bernie Wilson, the baritone vocalist in the classic lineup of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, passed away early yesterday (Sunday, 12/26/10) from undisclosed medical complications at Kresson View Center in Voorhees, NJ.
A Philadelphia, PA native, Wilson was born on July 12, 1946. He joined Melvin, Teddy Pendergrass, Lawrence Brown and Lloyd Parks in the world-renowned lineup that was signed to Philadelphia International Records in 1972, the beginning of a four-year string of hits for Harold Melvin and the Blue Notesthat were integral in defining the Sound of Philadelphia. They became one of the most popular groups in R&B music genre during that period, though originally formed in the 1950s as The Charlemagnes, with recordings that ranged from sweeping, extended proto-disco dance tracks to silky, smoldering ballads, all in the lushly orchestrated production that had become the legendary signature of Kenneth Gamble & Leon Huff.
MUSIC NEWS - R&B pioneer Carlton "King" Coleman died yesterday in Miami, FL at the age of 78 from heart failure at a local hospice care center, his son reported.
Coleman is best known for singing lead vocals on the 1959 hit (Do The) Mashed Potatoes, recorded with James Brown's band. He also released several solo singles including Mashed Potato Man and The Boo Boo Song and performed with many artists including BB King and Jackie Wilson.
