Esperanza Spalding Announces Initial Round of "World Tour" Dates

MUSIC NEWS - Esperanza Spalding has announced plans for a world tour and released the initial batch of dates that start up on April 18, 2012, as the bassist, vocalist and composer unveils her new release, Radio Music Society into a dynamic "big band" format. 

 

Spalding's latest release, Radio Music Society, will be out on March 20, 2012, and is said to be her most diverse, ambitious and masterful recital yet.  Each of the 12 songs are accompanied by conceptual music videos, which further express her inspiration and story behind each track. Shot in various locations including New York City, Barcelona and Portland, all videos will be available to purchasers of Radio Music Society as a digital download or a DVD on the deluxe version.

 

ADELE Scraps Remaining USA Tour Dates, Stays in the UK

MUSIC NEWS- After previous concert cancellations and ongoing health issues, UK singer-songwriter Adele has cancelled the rest of her sold out USA concert tour due to a vocal chord hemmorrhage, her record company annouced today, saying she won't make the trip accross the pond for the schduled concerts here.

The Grammy-winning singer has scrapped ten shows, starting with Atlantic City, NJ gig on October 7 and three dates in Texas two weeks later.  Adele had been on the road promoting her topselling  "21" album that has produced the hits  "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You."

JOSS STONE Releases New "Karma" Video

MUSIC NEWS - Grammy Award winner Joss Stone has released her newest music video for her soulful and funky song "Karma." The video was made during the sessions of the recording of the song in Nashville, where Stone recorded her newest record LP1. The video features clips of all the musicians performing at the sessions, with footage of them all having a great time piecing together this remarkable song. Check it out, below...

 

Daryl Hall Announces "Laughing Down Crying" Solo Album

MUSIC NEWS- Legendary singer-songwriter Daryl Hall has announced plans to release his fifth solo studio album, Laughing Down Crying, on September 27 (on Verve Forecast).  With his iconic soulful vocals, Hall’s newest collection is said to be fresh and current while still maintaining his signature style and songwriting prowess. Hall's been joined in the studio by co-producers Greg Bieck (Jennifer Lopez, Destiny’s Child, Ricky Martin) and Paul Pesco on the making of this album.  The late T-Bone Wolk (Billy Joel, Carly Simon, Elvis Costello), lent his expertise as producer on “Lifetime of Love”, “Wrong Side of History” and “Problem With You.” This album serves as the last project they worked on together after a prolific 30 year relationship.

ADELE Re-schedules Cancelled USA Tour Dates

MUSIC NEWS- UK soul sensation Adele has been riding hign, her critically acclaimed sophomore album release, 21 was #1 on the top album charts for ten weeks, and was on a major concert tour that had to be cancelled due to laryngitis.

“As I’m sure most of you know I had to cancel over half of my U.S. tour a couple (of) weeks back,” she wrote on her web site at the time. “It was a devastating decision to make, but I really had no choice. I had to give my voice 2 weeks rest or risk permanent damage. I’m so so sorry.”

JOSS STONE Announces "LP1" Release

MUSIC NEWS- Joss Stone has just announced the release of her new album LP1.  It will arrive on July 26, 2011 (via Stone'd Records & Surfdog Records). 

24 year old Stone is a world-renowned, Grammy winning soul singer who's been dubbed "Aretha Joplin" by Smokey Robinson.  She recently established her own label, Stone'd Records, and has partnered with Surfdog to release LP1. This is the first album Joss has recorded with total creative freedom, co-wroting and co -producing with producer, artist (and Eurythmics co-founder), Dave Stewart.   Together they immersed themselves into a rock n' soul musical odyssey in Nashville, TN finishing LP1 in only six days.

ARETHA FRANKLIN Announces Her Return to the Stage

MUSIC NEWS - New York State's Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel has announced that ARETHA FRANKLIN  will make her return to the concert stage on May 28, 2011 at their Seneca Niagara Events Center.

Ms Franklin had been recovering from an unnamed medical condition and was recently honored at the Grammy Awards show with a multi-artist tribute.  Franklin said in a recent interview she's back at "150 percent" for her upcoming shows after battling an undisclosed illness and canceling most of her engagements for several months.

Aretha Franklin Released From Detroit Hospital and Home for the Holidays !

MUSIC NEWS- We're very pleased to report that earlier this week, music legend Aretha Franklin was discharged from the Detroit, MI hospital she had been in for her recent surgery and that her doctors deemed the procedure highly successful ! The Queen of Soul is reported to be in great spirits and very happy to be home where she will be resting in anticipation of spending the upcoming holiday season with her family.

“I’ve been at home for almost three days now.  My family and friends who brought me home are taking great care of me. I also have a private nurse who visits on a daily basis.  I’m hoping to be strong enough to go out and see the upcoming Sam Cooke play at the Music Hall in Downtown Detroit before January 2, 2011, as well as a performance of DREAMGIRLS at the Fox Theatre before it closes.”

 

 

UPDATE 12/27/10 - Aretha Franklin is alive and not dead confirms her hometown newspaper, the Detroit Free Press.  This good news comes after reports to the contrary raced around the internet on Monday.  More @ Detroit Free Press

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN Stops in NJ Bar

MUSIC NEWS - In the midst of promoting his new The Promise album release , BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN recently stopped in at a NJ bar, Woody’s Roadside Tavern in Farmingdale, NJ on Veteran's Day to play the Wilson Pickett classic tune, "Mustang Sally" with local band, Timepiece. 

One of the band members happens to be his brother-in-law, Mike Scialfa, so we're not totally surprised. Maybe it was the Bosses' way to warm up for his recent Jimmy Fallon tv appearance (Nov 16) , it sure looks like a good time was had by all. 

ARETHA FRANKLIN Released From Detroit Hospital

MUSIC NEWS - Reports recently that Aretha Franklin was ailing are true; the Queen of Soul announced through a publicist today that she was released from Detroit's Sinai Grace Hospital on Saturday (10/30/10) after a "brief stay" due to doctor's orders. The exact nature of her illness was not disclosed.

Last week, the Grammy Award winning Franklin canceled an October 27 make-up concert in Charlottesville, VA, citing illness. In her release news today, it was said that Franklin is resting comfortably at home, but is anxious to get back on the road to perform for her countless fans around the world. Ms. Franklin added, “I would like to thank my friends, fans and supporters for all the beautiful flowers and their many well wishes.”

UPDATE 11/04/10 - Under her doctor's orders, Ms Franklin has now cancelled all of her concert appearances through May 2011 !

UPDATE 12/08/10 -  A family member has confirmed to Detroit, MI TV station, WJBK that Ms Franklin is suffering from pancreatic cancer and is recovering from surgery.   And, Rev Jesse Jackson, a long-time friend, said that Franklin was "recovering very well" and is in high spirits. "She's conscious, communicating and taking daily walks up and down the hall," he added.

Soul Legend SOLOMAN BURKE Dies at Amsterdam Airport

MUSIC NEWS- Soul singer Solomon Burke died at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on Sunday of natural causes.   A representative for the airport, Robert van Kapel, confirmed the death of Mr Burke, 70 and directed all questions to the singer’s management.  His family has since released a message on his passing at TheKingSolomonburke.com

The singer, who was a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2001 inductee) and a former preacher, was travelling to Amsterdam for a concert on Tuesday.  Born James Solomon McDonald in Philadelphia, PA on March 21, he claimed his birth year was 1940, but several biographical references list his birth year as 1936.

Soulive Back with "Rubber Soulive" and Tour

MUSIC NEWS - The NY based soul/funk outfit, Soulive has announced a USA tour that keeps them playing live thru the end of 2010, in support of their ninth studio album, the fab, Rubber Soulive.

The 27-show run starts up this weekend with a New York City hometown blow-out dubbed The Royal Family Ball at Terminal 5.  It will feature special guests John Scofield, Talib Kweli, Christian Scott, Big Sam and Maurice Brown, as well as Royal Family crew Nigel Hall, Lettuce and The Shady Horns.

Other tour highlights include festival appearances at Bear Creek Festival and Clearwater Jazz Festival, stops throughout the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and West Coast and a handful of two-night stands, including Port City Music Hall in Portland, Higher Ground in Burlington, The Independent in San Francisco, Cervante's in Denver and a New Year's Eve celebration at Paradise in Boston.

SHERYL CROW, New "100 Miles from Memphis" and SUMMER DAY Video

MUSIC NEWS- Summer Day is the first single off Sheryl Crow's new studio album, her seventh, called 100 Miles From Memphi swhich is releasing tomorrow, July 20th on A&M Records. The video for the song is on our Today's Video Clip page.

Sheryl recently helped kick off the return of Lillith Fair with several shows and is heading back out on the road with a new touring band this August to promote 100 Miles From Memphis.  Joining her on the road to help deliver the vibe of her new soulful songs will be Doyle Bramhall II and Chris Bruce on guitar, Tommy Simms on bass, Victor Indizzo on drums, Jeff Babko on keyboard and a horn section.

PHIL COLLINS is "Going Back" This September

MUSIC NEWS - Phil Collins has wrapped up a string of live performances to herald the upcoming release of his new studio  album, "GOING BACK," due September 28th (via Atlantic Records).  On the brief tour, Collins played seven intimate, SRO shows;  a pair at Philadelphia's venerable Electric Factory, three at New York City's famed Roseland Ballroom, one in London for ITV1 television, and capped the run with a special Montreux Jazz Festival show in his adopted country of Switzerland.

"GOING BACK" is his labor of love that has fromer Genesis-man and eight-time Grammy winner faithfully recreating the Motown and soul music that played such an influential role in his creative life (see complete track listing below).  On stage, Phil brought his homage to life with a big band anchored by three members of Motown's legendary Funk Brothers studio team; bassist Bob Babbitt and guitarists Eddie Willis and Ray Monette, who are also featured on the album.  The live band also included long-time Collins Genesis cohorts Chester Thompson (drums), Daryl Stuermer (guitar), and Brad Cole (keyboards), plus Leslie Smith (percussion).  Rounding out the ensemble was a five-member horn section and six backing vocalists.

PHIL COLLINS is "Going Back", New Album & Special NYC Shows

 MUSIC NEWS - Straight from his recent induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (as member of prog rock group, GENESIS) Phil Collins has announced the release of his new album, "GOING BACK," said to be a deeply personal labor of love that finds the eight-time Grammy winner faithfully recreating the Motown and soul music that played such an influential role in his creative life.  Due in September (via Atlantic Records), "GOING BACK" marks his first new studio album in eight years.  

To celebrate "GOING BACK" in advance,  Collins will play a string of very special  live concerts at New York City's Roseland Ballroom from June 22-25.  Billed as UP CLOSE & PERSONAL: PHIL COLLINS PLAYS 60'S MOTOWN & SOUL, the shows will be exclusively devoted to the music from "GOING BACK" and other classic R&B/pop gems.  The concerts will be presented as an "old school" style, standing-room-only dance concert.
