CAKE in Live Stream from NYC's Ed Sullivan Theatre

MUSIC NEWS - Sacramento, CA-based eclectic rockers CAKE (John McCrea, Vincent DiFiore, Xan McCurdy, Gabriel Nelson and Paolo Balwill) take over the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City for a “Live on Letterman” performance. The intimate, 45-minute set will showcase CAKE classics as well as new songs from their latest album record from Warner Bros, Showroom of Compassion. The performance will be broadcast live online via CBS tomorrow, June 28, at 9:00pm ET as part of CBS Interactive’s exclusive webcast series which has featured diverse talent ranging from Foo Fighters, Adele, Snoop Dogg, My Morning Jacket, Katy Perry and more.

Brent Hinds New WEST END MOTEL Video Message

MUSIC NEWS- Mastodon's Brent Hinds been hard at work with two side projects recently; one, WEST END MOTEL are said to be a conglomerate of losers, poets and hobo-sexuals. Tom Cheshire met Hinds in Atlanta, GA on a corner under a bridge in 1993. They were panhandling and drinking cough syrup and before long, music began spewing from their pores. Songs were written on an acoustic guitar and a bucket with the occasional toy piano in the background. Late nights turned into early mornings and much booze was consumed. They write and sing for the underdog and give the listener a glimmer of hope. Originally, they aimed for a Simon And Garfunkel hanging out with Ethel Merman but the end product sounds more like Nick Cave fronting Gogol Bordello. The songs take on a life of their own and no two tracks sound alike. 

DOOBIE BROTHERS Unveil New "Far From Home" Video

MUISC NEWS - The Doobie Brothers have partnered with The USO and are premiering their new video for their recent single release “Far From Home” on USO.org.  The tune is off their current album release, WORLD GONE CRAZY and the song was written by singer Pat Simmons. “Far From Home” recounts the bittersweet moment when a son or daughter leaves home for the first time.  Inspired by his daughter’s departure for college, the song also hits home with military families, who are no strangers to lengthy separations. 

Wanting to involve their fans in the video process, the band called for video submissions that depicted emotional reunions.  "Some of the most affective videos were those of military families,” said vocalist Pat Simmons.  “Their separation being a very contemporary subject, we realized then that the song addressed a broader audience.  It was as much about other families’ experiences—particularly the military.”

ANNA CALVI, USA Tour Announce and "Blackout" Video

MUSIC NEWS - Anna Calvi’s self-titled debut, released early this month via Domino Records  is an astonishingly confident and charismatic record that focuses on the unique strengths of her songwriting, incredible vocals and mastery of the fret board. With early positioning as one of 2011’s break out stars, Calvi most recently landed in the Sunday New York Times where her music was lauded as “…cinematic, larger than life. As Ms. Calvi sings about the overpowering forces of heavenly love and demonic passion, she can go from whisper to cataclysm in four minutes, and she regularly does.”

Anna Calvi has been praised across Europe as one of the most exciting new artists. Tours with Grinderman, Arctic Monkeys and Interpol gained her considerable, and deserved, attention.  She'ss now set to make her USA live debut, with a nationwide spring tour that kicks off in Philadelphia, PA on May 23 with an intimate backing band that consists of Mally Harpaz on guitar, harmonium and percussion, and Daniel Maiden-Wood on drums.

The BEATLES Arrive on iTunes !!!

MUSIC NEWS- As we noted earlier, and now have official word, Apple Corps, EMI and Apple today announced that the Beatles, the most influential and beloved rock band in music history, are now available for the first time on the iTunes Store. Beginning today, the band's 13 legendary remastered studio albums with iTunes LPs, the two-volume "Past Masters" compilation and thire classic "Red" and "Blue" collections are available for purchase and download on iTunes worldwide as either albums or individual songs. 

You can also get a special digital "Beatles Box Set" featuring the "Live at the Washington Coliseum, 1964" concert film, a worldwide iTunes exclusive which captures the Beatles' very first US concert. 

FARM AID 25 To Be Broadcast Live !

MUSIC NEWS - Farm Aid 25 will be broadcast live in HD on YouTube and DIRECTV starting at 6pm Eastern time today,  Saturday, October 2, 2010.   

Farm Aid is now under way at Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI.  The doors opened a few hours ago, at noon local time, and the music has started!

OK Go Premieres "White Knuckles" Video

MUSIC NEWS - OK Go's new video for "White Knuckles," their latest single, will premiere on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" today (Monday, September 20, 2010 - check local listings for details). The new clip  like all of the other videos from Of the Blue Colour of the Sky can be seen at Ellen's site (and below).   OK Go caps off the day with a performance of "White Knuckles" on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

In customary OK Go fashion, "White Knuckles" was filmed in one continuous shot.  And, like the band's GRAMMY®-winning video "Here It Goes Again," it was directed by the band and Trish Sie, lead singer
Damian Kulash's sister and was shot in Corvallis, OR.

"White Knuckles" is the latest in the band's series of inventive music videos that have set internet records and won numerous awards. The Producers Guild of America, in association with Variety, recently named OK Go as one of 2010's "Digital 25," recognizing the 25 leading visionaries, innovators and producers in digital media. On November 2, OK Go will release Of the Blue Colour of the Sky Extra Nice Edition on its own record label, Paracadute.

The BLACK CROWES to Release "20 Years of Tall Tales" Web Series

MUSIC NEWS - “20 Years of Tall Tales” is the aptly named web series that the THE BLACK CROWES will start releasing next Tuesday, August 3.  This coincides with the release of Croweology via Silver Arrow/Megaforce Records), their first-ever double album of all-acoustic material with new arrangements of their best-loved songs and deep cuts.  In a wide-ranging and freewheeling interview marking the 20th anniversary of their landmark multi-platinum debut, 1990's Shake Your Moneymaker, frontman CHRIS ROBINSON talks about where THE  BLACK CROWES, arguably one of the most misunderstood rock bands of all time, have been and where they are now. 

THE NATIONAL Announced Special Hometown Charity NYC Show

MUSIC NEWS -  The National have confirmed a special hometown performance on May 15 at BAM (The Brooklyn Academy of Music) in NYC. The show happens only days after their May 11 release of 'High Violet' album (out via 4AD). All ticket proceeds from the show will benefit Red Hot, a leading international organization dedicated to fighting AIDS through pop culture.

The concert, presented by ZYNC from American Express, will also stream live as a webcast directed by acclaimed filmmakers D.A. Pennebaker ('Don't Look Back,' 'Monterey Pop') and Chris Hegedus (the Oscar-nominated 'The War Room,' the upcoming 'Kings of Pastry').  The first live concert webcast directed by Pennebaker and Hegedus, the event will be preceded by a short film from the award-winning filmmakers.

Paolo Nutini To Release Live EP in March

MUSIC NEWS -  Paolo Nutini has announced details of his upcoming new Atlantic Records EP,  “PAOLO NUTINI – RECORDED LIVE AT PRESERVATION HALL”. The set will be available thru all online retailers on March 2, 2010.

TEGAN AND SARA's New Alligator Video, Tour Update

MUSIC NEWS- Tegan and Sara’s has a new video out now, for their new single “Alligator”. Out exclusivley on MySpace in the USA and Much Music in the girls’ native Canada.    The winter wonderland-evoking video features Tegan and Sara romping with a posse of long-johns-wearing dancers amid mountains of multi- colored confetti and futuristic ewoks was directed by Marc De Pape.

 

“Alligator” is the second single from Tegan and Sara’s current album Sainthood (out via Sire/Vapor Records in October 2009) and produced by Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla (who also produced 2007’s critically applauded THE CON) and Howard Redekopp (who produced 2004’s groundbreaking effort SO JEALOUS) and mixed by Grammy Award winner Dave Sardy (Oasis, Primal Scream, Marilyn Manson).

PARAMORE Releases "The Only Exception" Video

MUSIC NEWS - Paramore today released their video for "The Only Exception" (view it below), off their brand new eyes album (out via Fueled by Ramen /  Atlantic Records).  They are also working on plans for their Spring North American tour that starts April 26th.  Included will be a gig headlining at The Bamboozle New Jersey on May 1st. 

The new tour comes right after Kristian (at left) and company's recent European run, a trek that saw the Grammy Award-nominated band blowing the roof off of sold-out arenas across the continent, including London's 12,500-capacity Wembley Arena.
